It does not really take that long. Depending on the image, you can always have a go with different selection tools e.g. Magic Wand Tool or Pen Tool. Your effort is great, but I am not sure whether this technique works that well with photographs with motion blur. But the technique is right! Well done

It is quite easily done with a rubber, two layers and photoshop :)
